"The Outdoor Industry's Free Focus Group That Grades And Provides Unbiased Reviews With No Incentive."

ABOUT US

The Industry Choice Awards and evaluations started with a concept in 2015 from a group of firearms industry enthusiasts seeking to bridge the gap of communications from the end user to the designers and manufacturers.

The question was (and still is)...

"How do we provide Real feedback from Qualified people about industry products."

Internet feedback can be grueling to sift through comments and there is no way to determine the person’s aptitude of the product to trust the feedback. Product feedback usually only gets to the sales or customer service departments in companies and they are expected to translate it to the rest of the company departments.

In a fast paced industry of evolving products, we want to provide fair and unbiased level of feedback to the industry for FREE so it couldn’t be influenced by participants with the most marketing/advertising budgets or sales pitches of influence.

The Industry Choice Awards and Evaluations are the sole property of the sponsor Oneida Molded Plastics (OMP). No data is influenced or sold. Whereas OMP is a supplier to the firearms market, they host and run the ICA events, but are NOT evaluators or influence the results of the evaluation or outcome.

THE PROCESS

A team of firearms enthusiasts from various skill sets and market segments review product submissions in an anonymous way with as little bias as possible.

Criteria for evaluators:

  1. Must be deemed as a safe and legal potential consumer of firearms products
  2. Must fill out application or be recommended by other evaluators
  3. Cannot be employed by a potential submission company or competitor.
  4. Qualification, recommendation. or previous participation does not guarantee a position on the evaluation team.  Each year we seek to continuously “balance” the team with skill sets and people from all market segments of the potential consumer and influencer market (i.e. General enthusiast, Law Enforcement, Military, Competitive shooters, hunters, gunsmiths, retail stores, range owners, distributors, etc.)
  1. Provide an open submission process for “new” products or re-released products either not previously submitted or launched in the last 18 months. Exceptions are considered for certain category segments or circumstances based on the number of submissions for that year.
  2. Evaluators randomly select an “evaluator number” which is unique and private to them in order to prevent any specific tracking of evaluators identity to the ranking or comments they provide.
  3. Evaluators spend 2 ½ days with submitted products filling out surveys of leading questions about the products including appearance, perceptions, versatility, value, form, fit, and function.
    1. The data collected from the evaluations is only provided to the submitting company.  It is not shared with competitor companies, the media, or any other source.  Only two sources have access to the data.
    2. The submitting company for their own use
    3. OMP for their internal use of market research and marketing of supplier resources

Why Submit?

Why Submit?

Why should a company submit products for ICA Evaluations?

We know of no other type feedback of a free focus group in the industry that provides specific product feedback exclusively to the submitting company. We go to great extremes to build a team of qualified evaluators, specific intent leading survey questions, and limit opportunity for bias as a SERVICE to the industry.

  1.  FREE evaluations of products from cross functional evaluation team made up of individuals from multiple backgrounds and diversity of the industry that are qualified as potential consumers and vetted for bias.
  2. Evaluators are volunteers. They are instructed to comment about products as if they are speaking directly with a team from the manufacturers about their product submission.
  3. Data should be used to influence future product design and development based on real and unbiased feedback. Since the evaluators are qualified volunteers, they have nothing to gain or lose by being open and honest with their feedback and opinions.
  4. Information is private to the submitting company. Neither positive nor negative feedback is shared with anyone outside the company that submitted their product.

FAQ'S

There is no obligation for product submissions to be donated. Upon request, products submitted for evaluation will be returned.

Alternatively, Companies have the option to donate the products submitted. The products donated are disposed of in one of two ways:

  1. Because evaluators are volunteers, they are provided with food and lodging for the 3 days of evaluations sponsored by OMP. A portion of the donated products are allocated for a random draw opportunity for evaluators to win to entice them as participants and potentially help them with travel expenses.

The remainder of the products are donated to 501C3 charity industry organizations. One of our favorite 501C3 organizations for the past few years has been Generation III Gun
http://generation3gun.com/  that provides scholarships to youth shooters to pay for their match entry fees to 3 gun matches across the US. Through the auctions and raffles, the ICA products have raised over $20k for the Generation III Gun scholarship fund.

This is a question we get a lot. Why in the world would an injection molding company build, run, and sponsor this service to the industry?

Well, I’m glad you asked!

For over 50 years, dating back to some of the first-ever firearm conversions from wood to plastic stocks, Oneida Molded Plastics (OMP) has been making firearms components. We love the industry, manufacturing innovations and enjoy the people, success, and growth of the outdoor products industry. It is a passion.  Whereas there are millions of various plastics parts and thousands of injection molded plastics companies, we strive to continue to focus and be the best in this industry. We designed, run, and sponsor the ICA evaluation teams to help the success of the entire industry through providing direct feedback from the evaluators to the companies who design and develop the products of the future for the industry. We hope, in some small way, that we are helping connect the potential consumer feedback of their likes and dislikes products as to influence the designs of tomorrow’s products. We realize that data is key to success, so by collecting and seeing the vast amounts of feedback on products, we can also be a better supplier of future programs in the market.

The winners of the Industry Choice Awards are determined through a rigorous product evaluation process. Industry manufacturers submit or donate their best “Product of the Year” in each category. A committee selected from end-user groups evaluates and ranks the products based on Fit, Form, Finish, and Functionality.

The most important people in the business, the end users, perform the testing and evaluation of the products. They are selected to be part of the committee that evaluates the submitted products.

Each company can submit or donate a maximum of two products in each Industry Choice Awards category.

Yes, the evaluation process and scoring procedures will be shared with the manufacturers. They will have access to the details of how their products were evaluated.

The “Product of the Year” in each category is chosen based on the evaluation final score. The product with the highest score will be selected as the winner.

The testing and evaluation process includes criteria such as fit, form, finish, and functionality. These aspects are considered when assessing the products.
